about

Like the other “modal suite” on the album (see Aeolian Suite), this composition started with teacher Martin Lund guiding me to this wonderful set of notes called the Phrygian mode. Exotic, dark, Moorish, bluesy and scary came to mind when I played all the 8 white keys between E and E on the keyboard. For the music itself, I was inspired by three composers -- George Gerschwin, Bill Evans and Ludovico Einaudi – whose music resonated with my world at the time and then drew me into theirs. Martin captured and wove all of the above together with his provocative arrangement and musicianship. The result was the three mini-movements of this suite.
